I plan on going to CDA this summer most likely in the June class. I had a few questions if anyone can help. Once you graduate from CDA and find a job how long can you expect to work. I have been reading online and it seems like a commercial diver only works so many months a year. Is that true and how many months? Also what is good to study before going to CDA? this industry can be seasonal but not for everyone. be a hammer and u will always work. offshore, hurricanes r a commercial divers best friend, rough season, plenty of work. still most companies can keep u busy if ur a productive part of the team. make urself an asset and the only time off u'll have is what u ask for. expect to work at least 3 months straight ur first hitch out. save money for those rough winter months when things naturally slow down. if all else fails, there's always shop work that companies will put u in until a gig comes up. a positive can do attitude is key, not butt kissing. no one respects that. listen, learn, and work hard and u'll succeed. good luck

If your going offshore to work then dont waste your time and money taking the welding cert or the dmt cert while at cda. Your company will pay to train you.

i will have to disagree with realdeal especially when it comes to DMT training. when work is going on the only thing that counts is production. companies will not pull u from work to send u to a 3 week long program for training, they will just use someone else. many times u as a DMT will get called out for a job strickly because u r a DMT and they need at least one on each job per shift. and u get paid a little more.

Hey Dee Dee...
I am a CDA alum and if I remember correctly, some of the instructors there mentioned that you were working as an LST for Oceanneering? If this is not accurate, I apologize but if it is, I was wondering I could pick your brain about becoming an LST? I too am interested in doing that was would appreciate any info you could pass along.
